OUR HISTORY

The Iron River Country Club, otherwise called THE CLUB as it was first called when it was started many years ago. THE CLUB was members only for the mining company bosses and the so called "elite" of Iron River. With it being a members only club, to gain membership, one must pass the famous black ball test. One black ball and you were not permitted membership. THE CLUB had a full time chef, Mr. Michael Dacheff and his wife, that did luncheons weekly for the ladies card afternoon, meals for both the men's and ladies golf day, and meals for the many parties. The course was maintained to a pristine appearance, if issues arose, a call was made to one of the mining superintendents. He would dispatch several miner's to help Mr. Russell Hartley with the issue. As the mines closed and the mining company bosses moved to new locations, THE CLUB was opened to ALL golfers as it is today. THE CLUB is a 9 hole course, but plays to an 18 hole course with the many tee boxes and distances. THE CLUB is not overly long, but very sporty and challenging. THE CLUB still has ladies day with meals as well as a men's day with lunches. Sunday Brunch, which was started last year with golf to follow, has been a huge success. Wednesday's scramble with lunch has been a hit since Mark Melchiori started it.
